Not passing your real estate exam can be disappointing. The exam is not easy and there are a lot of topics you need to know to score the required 70%. But before you go ahead and book your next RECA exam with Meazure Learning, there are a few things you should consider:

What to do if you fail your real estate exam

Don't rebook right away

DON'T book your next exam right away. Take a breather. Review the exam summary provided by RECA to identify the topics you need to study more before re-attempting the exam.

Booking your second exam immediately doesn't leave time to review the course content you're unsure of or to consult with the area learning team or a tutor on topics you need help with. Once you've booked your exam, changing the date can be difficult. Taking some extra time BEFORE booking your second attempt is crucial.

There's no need to rush!

What if I am past the 90-day deadline?

area learn doesn't charge you to retake the course. So, if you’ve passed your 90-day deadline to complete your exam, it's no big deal.

We will simply re-enroll you so you can review the materials again. This means you can take as much time as needed to go through the content or work with a tutor before attempting the next exam.

What do I do if I fail my second exam?

If you fail your second exam, RECA requires you to retake the course. Again, area learn will not charge you for this, we will re-enroll you, so you can read the materials before your next exam attempt.

If you do fail your second exam, please reach out to us to discuss ways to prepare for your next exam.

Consider attending area learn events (online or in person), joining an online study group, working with a tutor, or talking to an area learn team member about content you don’t understand. You should also make sure you don’t skip over any content.

For example, hyperlinked text in the book will take you to resources with additional information you need for your exam. You will also need to read any resources that are available to you on your course platform in the “Resources Tab.”

The bright side of failing an exam

While failing an exam is never ideal, it provides you opportunity to hone your study efforts. Here are some positive points to remember when you fail your real estate exam:

  • After your exam, RECA will send you a breakdown of how you scored on various topics. This will give you a good idea of where you should focus your studies the second time around.

  • You’ll have a fresh perspective of how RECA asks their exam questions and what topics will be covered. You can take advantage of this so you can focus on units that need reinforcement. You may also want to work with a tutor who will tell you when you are ready to write the exam.
